About Arohanui Church

We aspire to live by faith, be known by love and be a voice of hope in the community.

Arohanui Church began as a Methodist Church about 50 years ago and is now an all-age congregation affiliated to Grace Fellowships network of Churches around New Zealand.

We are a community church with a number of outreach ministries focused on supporting international missions, local community, families and individuals.

As a church family, we celebrate Holy Communion together fortnightly. This includes the children, at their parents discretion.


Statement of Faith

We believe in:

  • One sovereign God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit,

  • The divine inspiration of Holy Scripture, and its supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct,

  • Jesus Christ is the unique Son of God, conceived of the Holy Spirit, became human, lived a sinless life, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the dead, and is now exalted at the right hand of the Father.

  • The sinfulness of all human beings, and our individual need for salvation,

  • The loving grace of God, to be received through faith in Jesus,

  • The need for the Holy Spirit to bring us to repentance, faith and new life, and to transform and empower us,

  • The universal Church, the body of Christ, to which all true believers belong,

  • The call to all believers to live a holy life, in obedience to God,

  • The responsibility of the Church to proclaim the Good News of Christ to a lost world, and serve others in his name, and

  • The return of Jesus, and eternal life for all who belong to him.

We affirm:

  1. Believers’ baptism for all who confess Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord (however, we will practice infant baptism where at least one parent is a Christian and requests it for the child),

  2. The Ministry of men and women, both lay and ordained, through the Church, for the world,

  3. The Lord’s Supper is an event where all are commanded to remember. We welcome all believers who share with us asking everyone to examine themselves. Children are also welcome with the consent of their parents.

  • Grounded in the larger narrative of God as it is presented in the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments and affirmed by the Nicene Creed.

  • Humbled by the sovereign and good nature of our God and his care for and enjoyment of us (humanity). 

  • Fearless in learning, listening, growing, taking risks, leading and discipling others, and speaking truth to our communities in the ever-changing global world. 

Through our Hope in the Holy Spirit, we are called to…

  • Create.  The Holy Spirit is over all, through all, and in all, so we passionately seek to reveal beauty in every area of life. 

  • Pray.  In prayer we seek and find the Holy Spirit’s power to change ourselves, others, and our world.

  • Generosity.  The Holy Spirit creates an abundant world, and this is realized in our hearts and minds through the radical giving of time, treasure, and talents.

Through the Love of Jesus, we seek to…

  • Serve our community and advocate for the weak and the afflicted.

  • Collaborate with Jesus, our multicultural community, and all who are willing to see His kingdom come and His will be done.

  • Heal the broken, bruised, weary and heavy-laden physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally, including ourselves.
