The Arohanui village opened in October 1979 as a healing environment of Christian love and hospitality for the families that visited and lived there. The holiday/guest accommodation served to help those in need of rest from stress or a fracturing relationship and many people regained their self-worth through their interactions with the caring community that lived on site.

The concept of the village was to be an alternative healing neighbourhood in which hurting families or individuals could find Christian love, support and guidance in an inter-generational environment.

Nowadays the 9 village units are rented to families and individuals that are both involved and not involved with Arohanui Family Church.
